Im going on 4 months now (since deciding 100% on going through with the idea) of saving here and there and when i get close to actually having enough to buy my rb25 motorset, bills come around and im a few hundred short. i already have my driveshaft and motor/transmission mount kit and my engine bay is 90% prepped. sometimes i forget that i own a 240 hatch because its taking so long to save the money (and i only see it once a week, sometimes once every 2 weeks, its at the parents). i know 4 months doesnt seem like a long time really, but i was wondering how long some of you had to save to just get the motor/transmission, im not even discussing the other parts left to purchase. toss in the price you paid for your motor/transmission if you want.

Didnt save at all. Tax return covered my motor set. Got that in February, but to actually get the car swappable, and all the parts, that took till this last Firday, and the car STILL isnt fully driveable till the third week in August.

I bought the car last November...

16-17 took me 1.5 years to save 13 grand to build my 240, my car was literally made from pizza tips and grass cuttings. Its alot easier to save when I was driving a junker, rather than a nicer car with a monthly payment and higher insurance.

Yea, first RB25 I paid for with valet tips and selling off everything that wasen't related to my car (besides the playstation). Watched every penny that was leaving, no eating out EVER! I look back and it was all worth it

I bought an 85 mr2 with my insurance money, for a daily driver, after I totaled my 240. I bought the 240 back from insurance and worked on it until I was ready for the rb20. I sold the MR2 and used that to pay for my clip. It wasnt money that was the issue, it was trying to get the damn thing running when I was 18 years old and had no idea what I was doing.

All of the upgrades I've done since then are paid for with cash when I have some to spare.

Pretty happy with the car considering the power, braking, and handling capabilities, considering I have no car payment.

Keep at it man, the first time you hear that inline 6 come to life with a harmonious roar, you'll be reassured that it was all worth it.

i cant WAIT for that!. i honestly dont see it running before winter, but i just want the damn thing already, and sitting in my car with the driveshaft hooked up, just knowing most of the labor and $ is out of the way. my 95 does the daily driving and is paid for, all my money basically goes in the bank for car, i do spend more than i should on eating out and beers, but i love my beers...eating out i can def cut back on, its unhealthy anyway. thanks for your stories guys, i am by no means doubtful, i just get so close to the goal, and im not one to save money.

My dad owns his own swimming pool installation/sales company,so i work with him.We have about 4 months of summer to make a whole year. Not to many ppl want to buy swimming pools in the winter.lol

Its hard,physical,hot,intese labor,but it pays the bills/addictions.lol

well i work at a gas station 7days and do 65hrs(min)-84hrs(max)/wk. in 05' when i got my first 240 i just did the reg maintenance sh*t to keep it running well. then in 06' i decided to get an sr20det...cost me 2k with shippng/etc. then i bought all the parts for the swap the same yr. in 07' i decided to sell my hatch in for a sweet coupe..cost me 2k for the shell alone- but hella clean. from dec of 07' to oct of 08' i had built the SR completely using( gt35r turbo kit, hks fmic, fully built head w/ 272* cams & all of its goodies, then had the bottom end fully built. all tegether costing me 10k!! then i spent another 6k on s15 6sp transmission swap, OS Geiken triple plate clutch, 1-piece alumm shaft, 2way nismo lsd, 300zx tt rear end swap, apexi power fc djetro, gt spec exhaust. the coupe project took me almost 3 yrs/ about 16k. i had entrusted a freind to help me build and tune the car. i never thought anything. then while in stages of tuning(back in oct of 08'..car just finished..it was stolen from the shop..FTL ill really never know what/how it happened, but i learned a heavy lesson, dont ever trust anyone!!! either do it yourself or have a reputable shop handle the job

in the end i had my friend on 3felony charges. he settled on giving me this car thats fully built...

in all i learned to be a master at saving money, who to trust, how to deal business, and to do my own sh*t. so just be patient and save all your money, work hard..it ll pay off before ya know it . also dont go cheap on your parts man, you ll be paying triple for your mistake

I dd an option-less 2000 civic, lived with 3 roommates for two years in a townhome less than 2 miles from my job, so rent and gas were dirt cheap. I went home and made lunch every day instead of going out. And having an engineering job in Iowa where the cost of living is cheap makes it easy to save money fast.
