Does anyone expect elected republicans who sign tax pledges not to raise taxes to do anything to correct this?

A democratic majority in the house and senate with a democratic president most likely would.

Our tax code is an utter POS. I'm pretty sure that's one thing that all Americans can universally agree on. Is there a way we could come up with a list of all the non profits in America? It would be nice to dissect it and then shine the spot light right onto the glaringly obvious need for changes. How many school books could we buy for our kids by taxing the NFL alone.

Why do we even have a non profits for that matter?

There is a list, but there's like 1.8 million of them.

I'd be ok with getting rid of the non profit loop hole entirely.

For the NFL, absolutely, but not necessarily for everyone. Would you have an issue with a charity based non-profit like the American Red Cross having that loophole?

http://articles.businessinsider.com/201 ... -exemption

Here's a good look into the why the NFL has NPO status. It's a bit bogus, especially how the tax code specifically states "professional football leagues", but out of the $9 billion in revenue the league office pulls in, only $200m or so seems to be considered tax exempt. The rest is taxed by the teams when the money is distributed out to the teams. If the league office were to be taxed on the revenue as it pulls it in, then the teams get taxed again, that would be double dipping.

Mostly, I'm just upset that the league execs get tax exemption status and the teams get to claim an average of $6m charitable donations for paying their dues.

I suppose it would be more of a negative to tax charities...some of them do some real good after all. But anything that isn't a charity or a church...f***.

NPO's should have some sort of yearly review. Honestly, while we still cling to requiring businesses to "so called pay" taxes (big laugh) and as long as they have to file returns, NPO's should have to do the same, and the numbers should end up showing a ZERO for taxable profit. If it shows anything other than ZERO, then they pay whatever taxes are imposable on that amount.

It really sounds to me like this might be how it already works, or I mean, it seems like this is how it should already be working. If a company doesn't make a profit, well, thats what NPO means, and there's nothing to tax. I don't think its so much a loophole as it is theres nothing to tax.

Now Im baffled as to how the NFL fits this mold.

I actually would be OK with NPO loopholes being closed all around... I'm no scrooge but it's just my opinion that you're using the system so you should be paying....
