I don't have my car right not to check, but how is the laser protected from rocks and other debris? When in use and not in use?

The laser sensor that is used in our car is a 'time of flight', infrared distance measuring device. It is most likely in an enclosure with a clear cover (glass is best for light transmission, but many use lexan for durability).

Our system is using a laser diode (class 1), that transmits an invisible beam of light. Other systems use radar waves instead.

Once it warms up, I am going to peek under the car and see if it is possible to find out who makes the unit.

How much paint do you have on the lens?

I'm not sure how much is still on the lens since the car is still at the dealer. When I asked the service manager if I could just remove the paint she made it sound like I would actually be cleaning the laser itself. I figured there was some kind of protective glass that I would be able to clean the paint off of. The service manager is tying to sell me a 2800 dollar repair.

Time to find a new Infiniti Service dealer, they're just trying to make a buck off of you.
