Late last night (close to midnight after work) I stopped by the store to pick up something. A friend of mine was in there who just purchased a sweet Nissan Z 2003. Rims, Tires, Intake, Exaust that's all as far as I know. He came outside and checked out my ride (2002 Q45 Premium Package).

We parted, I was going down a 4 lane road and saw him creeping up on me and heard his exaust get much louder so I punched and actually stayed ahead of him with no problems and pulled away just a little. We did it again and it was the same result. Now I am aware that the Z has limitless potential, but never in a million years would I have expect my Q45 that is as big as the "Love Boat" to have that kind of power.

Unbelievable, Alter-ego

In stock form, the z would have killed you...just goes to show you some mods alter performance in the wrong direction....despite the sound show they provide

I'm sure that he would have gotten me off the line no doubt, but at a 30mph rolling start 50 more foot pounds of torque I didn't have to get the BIG Q rolling from a dead stop. I am about to add a short ram intake as soon as it comes in, and would love to find a cat back exaust for it.

The air box just looks very restrictive, and the exaust setup seems like it limits the cars ability to really breathe.

I know on a small car you can add 2-5hp with an intake, but with a V8 I just have to believe it would be much more.

The Q's fast, just not "quick" off the line.

You'll find the restrictiveness of the stock air box is much better than the warm air from the engine bay. You can possible help with exhaust, but the cost versus gain is small.

Have you had the "Throttle Tip In" TSB performed yet? I hear that does wonders.

Save your money for an eye exam and do some reading here before blowing your cash on performance debilitating modifications unless you want to be slow like your friend.

You will need to generate about an additional 33 ft. lbs of torque to notice any gain.

Looks can be deceiving. I'm fairly certain that your F50 was built from the carefully engineered blueprints drawn up by the top Nissan engineers. And the Q45 wasn't a car built for street races and intense modifications.

My 03 M45 (with 20's) vs. G35 aftermaket parts galoreI love these stories. I had a similar run in with an overdosed 2006 G35 last night. HKS, Exhaust,Cams, etc.. He pulls up on me with his girl in the car at a rolling 35mph. We both punch it ! At 75 mph he was loosing ground fast. He never knew what hit him. I let up at 115mph as he tried to keep up. At the next light I rolled my window down and immediately he began talking about "if my car were a stick shift...) yada yada yada. I laughed, chuncked the deuce and winked at his girl and mashed out when the light turned green.

I felt bad! The G35 is like my little sister with a bad attitude.

"Chunked the deuce"? What's that mean? It sounds pretty cool. Nice kill.

I had a nice little experience with a FY33 today. He pulled up behind me at a light. He reads the Q45 badge and assumes that his car would be better than mine. He's eyeballing me in my rearview all the while. I see him say something to his lady friend and chuckle. Little did he know.

The light turned green and I was a ghost. By the time I hit 45 MPH, I looked back and he was still in the middle of the intersection wondering where the hell I went. I laughed and punched it to 60. The rest is history.

“Chunked the deuce” im no Genius but i figure it means throwing up the peace sign lol.... Q45 is not a drag racing car its a drivers car come down to LA set a destination from point a to point b ide take many of you guys since its all about the cars abilities and your skill oh and just the fact that i have to drive all day for my job = ] but its all gravy! Love your car and treat her well she will please you till her end. And **** G35’s! all of the G35 owners I know think they are god and start that whole if I had a stick shift talk because its sad how we have 4 very widely apart gears. But one day ill buy me a 93 and fix her up and have the joy of double clutching her like I used to with my 92 Legend.

My firend used to have people swearing he had a manual J30t. He'd throw the car into neutral and let it roll back and rev, then slip it back into drive and go forward. He spanked a 5.0 Mustnag once while I was with him. He used the lower gears quite frequently. He still does it in his 03 2.5 Altima.

Ugh. I know. It's quite distressing. But really, it does make sense.

Never thought it would happen to me though.

Yeah man. I'm afraid to shift past D. I've only used D2 to get out of some snow the month I bought it.

I'm sorry to say but 1990 to 1994 Maxima were the first front wheel drive V6 transmission Nissan ever made (so I heard).. and they really suck.I know from experience.

My friend has had 3 Maximas... a 91, a 94 and a 95.

Soon as he got the 91... us--young and cocky broke that thing in less than 3 months... the 94, in just about 2 months. We know better not to N-bomb any car... They were both great cars before he got it. The 95 seemed to be able to handle the pressure. I currently have a 95 Maxima and it seems like the most reliable car ever!

Nissan never made automatic transmissions. JATCO is the transmission supplier.

Important to be accurate and not say things that are obviously inaccurate or you loose all credibility on Forum.

Arduious RESEARCH and more research before posting.

"In the fall of 1984, the first front-wheel drive Maxima (based on the Bluebird U11) was introduced. " NOT 1990

And there was the 810 sedan before that in reply to Toyota's Cressida.

The Datsun 810 was Rear Wheel Drive, replaced by the 1985 Front Wheel Drive Maxima

I used to have fun blowing off ricers in my father's Altima 3.5 - with a four speed auto. I stopped at a light one day and some guy pulled up in a modified Golf and asked me for a race. I had a full tank of gas and a 200-lb friend in the passenger seat. An early 90s Camaro or something like that pulled up on the other side of the Golf to join in. I left the traction control on and just punched it in Drive when the light changed. Through first gear, the Golf stayed about neck and neck with me. Once the Altima was into second, it was bye bye. The Camaro stayed ahead of the Golf and started gaining, which is when I casually slowed down and pulled into the parking lot I was going to. I proved my point.

I used to play a game when I was on my motorcycle. I would egg on ricers by keeping the bike in a low gear and driving up behind them or just beside them, making it look like I was struggling to keep up, laying down on the gas tank with the engine revving high. As soon as they started booting it to try and beat me, I would sit up comfortably, pin the throttle, and go rocketing past them with ease.

My friend demolishes ricers with his 2.5 Altima. He manually shifts against them, and leaves them trailing.
