so im about to install my autometer wideband gauge, and in the instructions they say to mount the wideband sensor 4-5 inches away from the turbos exhaust outlet. but it also says the sensor can only withstand 900 degrees. so my question is how how will the downpipe get 5 inches away from the exhaust housing? its a turbonetics t3/t4 with a .63 hot side with the jgs top mount kit and jgs downpipe. thanks, TJG

HOT HOT HOT

I put mine in the downpipe, about in the middle of the straight part. I think the AEM instructions just said to place it before the cat. I don't think it's going to get up to 900 degrees though.

AEM uses bosch wbo2 sensors, so if it's a bosch I say anywhere before the cat and call it a day.

Most WBO2 sensors are placed at least a foot away from the turbo. Zeitronix recommends 18-24 inches for max life. It doesnt need to be close to heat, just before the cat so the further away you can get it the better it will be for the sensor.

The only thing I personally noticed is that the further away, the bigger distance between actual rpm and the AFR reading. So when tuning, bare that in mind so as not to lean out the wrong chunk of rpm.

I had mine installed 3/4 of the way down the down pipe. Worked like a champ so long as I changed the rpm 300-400 prior to the reading given by the wide band. In the beginning it's not THAT important, but when you're trying to get it running "just right" it always helps to be a perfectionist.

okay thanks guys, im having a shop tune it on a dyno, so they should be able to see everything on the dyno graph and not lean out or richen the wrong area.

I would put the sensor near the downpipe towards the cat/exhaust at a slight angle with the tip pointing down from horizontal. That maximizes the life of the sensor and allows more consistent measurements.

i believe mine is between 24-28" away from the turbo. Its right before my dp ends and my exhaust begins.
