How hot?

I want to clean up the engine bay and get that nasty heat shield a good cleaning. my step dad has this paint i can use he got free from a sales rep.....

is it going to see 300+ degrees. I dont have a EGT gauge so idk......

i dont really want to use normal engine enamel unless it is absolutely nessacary.

figure I would wire brush the rust off and give it a nice shine. I suppose I could have it san blasted at his work..... but EH....

I would think that it would be well over 300°F.

I regularly see 1600 F

yea it gets hot, but thats in the runner.

get it Jet Hot'd gabby, it will be a super heat shield then.

Sandblast it and get it Ceramic Coated.

Or just get that 1200 degree paint from auto zone. Its cheap.

Yeah right........it'll burn off within 10 mins Get it ceramic coated as mentioned above. I got my ex. mani heat shield done on my old ca18et, and it always stayed perfect...never dulled, peeled or anything. I also got the ex. mani done at the same time...same results, except it tarnished a tad. You can see them here...this was taken about 6-7 years after I got it coated.

I used that 1200* paint. It melted off in a matter of days. The smell was horrible and my ex mani is permanantly stained.

I get around those temps too. I usually see 1200*F-1600 *F

yea thats around 850 degrees C - 1600 F.... dont see anything wrong with that.

but why be cheap, jet hoting the heat shield would prolly cost around 50 ameros.

get used to it folks, tis coming.
