I'm looking into paint/powercoat options for my IC piping today, and I was wondering if anyone can give me a general range for the temperatures these pipes get to. Powdercoating fails at 400 degrees so I dont think I'm going to have to be worrying about that, but some paints have lower tolerances etc etc.

Anyone have a rough idea?

you also have to consider what kind of turbo your using. a t25 at 20psi is going to generate more heat than a t66 at 20psi.

after a wot run down the track at about 14psi from my tiny t04b the hot pipe is pretty warm. definitly nothing that your going to burn your hand over. so if i had to guess i would assume 150-200 degrees tops while at wot. this is jsut a very very rough guess

Here's an extremely useful website for calculations like that...

http://www.gnttype.org/techare....html

You can find the exact temperature at the compressor outlet given the ambient air temperature, pressure and compressor efficiency.

According to the formula on the website, at 19 psi, with 70 deg. ambient air temperature and 72% turbo efficiency, the theoretical discharge temperature at the compressor is 257.8 deg F..this is before the intercooler, of course.

So you're looking at around max 260 deg. F. My pipes never get close to that hot...even after some considerable spirited driving in the heat, but then again I'm only at 9 psi.

Hope that helps.

Marc
