how hot do cast iron engine blocks get?

Is it safe to say that our ca18 engine blocks reach sustained temps of 200 degrees F ?

Yes, The engine block will generaly be the same temperature as the coolant... The exhaust side behind the turbo might get hotter though.

That will depend mostly on your Thermostat and the cooling systems capabilities, but the engine block won't be too much different that the temp of the coolant and mine has never actually reached 200°F. I've got a hand held infrared pyrometer and it says the block is usually w/in 5°F of the coolant, and it's not super accurate, so they're prob the same temp.
