Hey guys, I'm new to these forums and the proud new owner of a 96 S14 240SX.

My question is how difficult is it to work on the KA24DE engine? I'm looking to perhaps buy one from a junkyard to play with before actually touching the one in my car. I've downloaded the FSM manual from the site, but still just how hard is it for a novice mechanic to learn on a KA?

compared to most cars, its very user friendly. Very good engine to learn on. Pretty spacious engine bay as well.

Basic mechanics will be simple as long as you can follow the directions in the FSM and have the correct tools.

Things become more difficult when you start to modify the engine to function beyond its limits. (IE: Excessive over boring, adding fuel injectors that the stock fuel pump and regulator can not keep up with, over advancing the timing, etc.)

Awesome! So as far as just learning about engines in general and how to take them apart and put them together following the FSM, the KA isn't too difficult to learn on.

Thanks for the responses.

getting an old engine to work on is a smart idea.

The KA from my experience is a great engine to start your learning experience on. I've always found rwd vehicles easier to work on than fwd anyways.
