hello. well here's my question:

i know i'm going to need to replace my clutch soon (early signs of slipping ) and i want to do it on my own. i have done a few more minor repairs on my own, and just recently replaced my entire rear sub-frame and suspension assemply with the help of a trained mechanic.this will be one of the bigger projects i believe i'll have undertook, so i was wondering, like on a scale of 1-10, how hard is it to replace your clutch? i will be replacing it with a centerforce stage 2 dual friction clutch if that makes a difference at all. i just want to get an idea of what i am looking at here, and what i should be prepared to do. thanks in advance!

Changing a clutch isnt hard at all. ive seen complete retards change em. just go into it having a general idea how to set the clutch up and you should be allright. i would say its maybe a 5 out of ten.

getting the transmission out and back in is the hard part. changing the clutch is a snap.

It is fairly easy as long as you have a transmission jack. Using a floor jack for the transmission can be quite a task. Drop your driveshaft, your transmission, and unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel and whala. If you get the chance to replace the pilot bearing which is the small bushing in the center of the flywheel it would be a good idea. You might need several extensions to access the top bolts on the transmission near the firewall. It usually helps to tilt the engine back for this. Just lower the transmission a little bit after you unbolt the crossmember and the engine will tilt. Good Luck!

what i do to drop the transmission, which is the hardest part, is just get a buddy to scoot it out and fall into my hands. the transmission really isnt that heavy. you then can just put it off to the side then. that is, if you dont have a lift and transmission jack, which makes it tons easier

My brother and I recently got done with a new clutch install. It's not terribly hard, just sucks when getting the transmission down or up. We just had the car up on ramps and jack stands and used a floor jack to hold the transmission. Worked out well.
