My G20's power antenna most likely needs a new motor (it screams). How hard is it to replace the assembly? Could I trust a good independent shop to do it right or should I take it to the dealer since it's an electrical part? Or is it so easy I could do it myself?

With care, it is an easy DIY.

You need to search, I know ive posted how to more than once..

In summary, you take out the motor (easy), replace it, and then put in the mast (unless the whole assy comes with a mast).....

4 bolts holding on the motor.. Simple stuff!!!

The trick is undoing the outer antenna retaining nut without scarring it.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

I was able to do it by putting a towel over a pair of channel locks to loosen it, and then unscrewing it by hand.

I now have mine in basically hand tight, its really snug though.

OUCH! One slip, and it's time for a new chromed nut! Better use the correct wrench, or even a small single bit screwdriver verrrry carefully!

I recommend the wrench.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

On the Q there is the top part that is all chrome, and doesnt have a fitting. You take that off, and then the rest just goes down into the car.

A rubber strap wrench is very slick for removing the antenna nut, no scratches possible.

I removed the nut with a pair of needle nose pliers by sticking the two points into each side of the nut. You have to be real careful not to strip the ends off. It's an easy DIY especially if you are replacing the whole unit with a mast.
