I never installed a clutch on nissan. Im about to buy a 84 nissan pu 4x4 drive that has a bad clutch and smokes. I was wondering how hard it would be to remove transmission and install a clutch.

Older Nissans are some of the most mechanic friendly cars and trucks out there, pulling the transmission is pretty straight forward, just remove the driveshhaft, pull the bellhousing bolts, then slide it right off... really easy to do if you got a lift you can put it on, but even without a lift it'll only set you back about an extra hour at most.
Being a 4x4 there may be some cross member clearance problems, but taking off the cross member will alow you to drop the trans pretty easily. I'd also recommend putting in a heavy duty clutch and have the flywheel resurfaced just so you won't have to go back in that area for a really long time.

Good deal on the truck... I got mine for $650 and all it needed was a new carb.
Yes it can be hard to justify spending money on stuff for these when you get them at a really low price, but it should really depend on how long you plan on keeping it, if you plan on restoring it, or just driving it "as is"... Now if you plan on keeping it for a long time or using it as a daily driver, you should put the best parts you can get in it... The stock clutch setup will last you at least 50 to 75K miles or more if you keep the engine stock and don't tow with it often, but if you do plan on any performance upgrades like forced induction where there's a major power improvement, or tow a trailer, or just got a heavy foot, then a heavy duty one should be bought, but for the most part the stock one will suffice. I do tend to recommend the more heavy duty, high performance parts mainly because of my heavy foot and my tendency to not leave anything I own stock for very long... I'm already buying all the parts to put a turbo on mine...
