Well worth it.I had a black Ford years and years ago and had the dealer paint it White. Under the hood and trunk. Never had a black car since. Had 4 white Chryslers and now have a 2009 White Glacier Pearl. Super .

No argument from me on a black car looking Slick! Daytime or nighttime clean black cars have a reflection you can get lost in!

Many moons ago... I had a custom "factory built" 72 Chevy Malibu Super Sport. All black with black interior. She was sweet. Any color other than black wouldn't have worked for me. When she was clean there was nothing prettier. Turned a lot of heads! Shiny black cars rule! Black (and cars darker colored cars) throw off more reflection and thus present a much deeper shine than white or light colored cars. That's probably a good reason why Gotham Gray is the most popular color in this forum.

That said... my Rogue is White.

Black cars looks great when spotless and really bad when dirty. My black SS made me nuts keeping it spotless. It showed every spec of pollen and dust and displayed TONS of tiny little dirt rings after every summer shower. OH! and don't even get me started on door dings! You can see door dings on a black car from 500 feet away but on a white car you have to walk right up to it and catch the light at just the right angle.

Anyway my SS was my very first black car... and my last... never again! While I enjoy washing and waxing my cars... I found I had to do more of it than I wanted by owning a black car. NET: You have to really love washing and fussing your cars to own a black one. I still look longingly at clean black cars when they roll by me on the street... but I've never got excited enough to buy another!

FYI... since my black SS I've owned one blue, one gray, one burgundy, three silver and SEVEN whites counting the Rogue.

All that being said... I didn't get white because its easier to keep clean... but because its a safer color. Here's an excerpt from Auto Safety Reviews:

"The safest car colors are those which are either light or bright. These colors enhance car safety because they reflect light and make it easy for people to see that you are driving towards them. These are the safest cars to drive at night in particular but are considered safe at all times of the day in comparison with darker cars. The safest car colors are usually said to be silver and white."

So... the good thing about owning a white Rogue... you never have to worry about anybody running into it:

fyi... not my Rogue. Pic is compliments of Fergie-Ferg

I've owned two black/dark cars. They both look incredible when reasonably clean. Yeah, black shows dirt and flaws more than lighter colors, but a little dirt isn't going to automatically make your car look like crap. Biggest enemy of black cars is winter. Snow helps road grime adhere to the paint and you get lots of white/gray residue on the sides of the car. But I see that as a sort of boon, too, as it's a reminder that it's even more important to was your car regularly in the winter (to minimize corrosion from salt on the roads).

My car looks okay when dirty, bad when REALLY dirty, and unbelievable when clean. When wet? It's sex on wheels. Absolutely worth it. I can't ever see myself owning a car that is NOT black, unless it's something exotic like a Ferrari...and even some of those look best in black.

Black does show body damage very well, though. I have some creases in my door (casualties of parking lots) and they're very visible, due in large part to the color.

I've had two black vans. garage kept and washed and waxed reguarly by me. Never a car wash.Never again. They show ever nick and scratch and look old before their time. White or Silver hold their value the best and are easiest to keep. BTW- why a surcharge for White-I think you got ripped off. Some dealers will try anything.

Black will work if the car can be kept clean. If you live/drive on a dirt road or areas prone to dust, it will show on black more and will be difficult to keep clean without frequent washings.

Consider your current car and how often you wash it, etc. Based on that schedule, run your finger on the panel and see how much dust/dirt is on it. If it's negligible, then black should work ....

Well... I'm afraid I have to agree. I searched multiple dealerships when I was trying to locate a White Rogue. During my preliminary research I noticed that some of them had a field in their MSRP breakdown where they “could” apply a premium / to "any" of the colors. I was willing to travel up to 1000 miles to find the Rogue I wanted so I searched from dealerships from Ohio to Florida and from North Carolina to west Texas. Not once in any of my searches, emails or phone calls did any dealership impose a surcharge for white or any other color.

On the flip side, at one time I lived in Arizona (18 years). In one hour, the temperature inside a vehicle in the summer sun can rise more than 50º. Plenty of tests have been conducted that show a car with a darker exterior color will get hotter on the inside faster than a light colored vehicle. NET: White reflects... Black absorbs.

In the warmer climates, Florida, Arizona, Texas, Southern California etc... a lot of people typically specify they want a white car when shopping. As a result white car premiums are imposed by some dealers. During my time in Arizona I personally paid the white car premium twice. It was a fee I was willing to pay. If during negotiation you raised an objection to the white car premium many Arizona dealers would have a white car and a black car sitting on their lot, parked next to each other. They would ask you to place your hand on the white car first... "Okay... it pretty darn warm" then they would ask you to place your hand on the black car... "Holy crap" (as you yanked your hand back! ) and you’d go ahead and pay the white car premium…

That said... when I think of Scarborough Ontario it doesn't impart images of scorching heat in my head. In reality… its average temperature in July is only 26(C), 79(F)... with a yearly mean of 13(C), 55(F). If I had to guess... if theks (or any buyer) was adamant and unshakably insistent about "only" accepting a specific color, then the dealer would be confident enough about tacking on a surcharge because they know the buyer will pay it.

Hot temps in a car during summer can be just as common here.

Granted, Southern Ontario does not get the hot dry heat of a place like Arizona. But we get plenty of high temps and high humidity during summer. We get a few days every summer that peak above 32 C (90 F). Sometimes they last days/weeks at a time.

Not any harder than any other color. The issue with any black vehicle (not just the Rogue) is keeping it looking looking clean and preventing swirls.

Any question of worth (no matter what the topic) is subjective. I wouldn't pay a $600 premium for white. However, YMMV.

If appearance while dirty is a top concern then I highly recommend buying silver vehicles. They tend to just look a little dull when they get dirty. Black and white both seem to really show dirt IMO.

In Canada, I believe the white colour raises MSRP by $300, due to the fancier paint. Certainly not $600 -- though I guess dealers can charge what the market will bear.

black looks great... once a week when you wash it. God, I wish I would have gotten a silver one. Had a silver Altima that was very easy to keep clean.
