I'm curious, DO you guys realize what happens to an engine when you redline it? And I'm not talking about affecting the longevity.

The gas mileage of the VH45DE, like any other engine, will drop drastically when redlined. I would be willing to bet $1 that the Gas mileage of the VH45DE at 6900~7300 is below 7MPG. That is just horible. I guess some people just don't care about gas money.

When my Q was running, I would go around looking for someone, usually with a bisa$$ wing, to humiliate. When we started to "go" from about 30~45, I'd "floor it". I'd let the transmission do the downshifting. So, the RPMs would usually spike almost immediately to above 5500RPMs. Within a mile, I would notice the Gas gauge had dropped noticeably. If I continued driving like that, I would "lose" a quarter of a tank very quickly.

And at $2.10 a gallon for Super Premium, that can really add up.

I've never noticed the fuel gauge quickly dropping. We did have an old chevy van that would do that under WOT though. Given all of the expenses of properly maintaining a Q - the gas costs (with WOT runs or not) is a drop in the bucket.

Yeah, with my driving that includes daily doses of a lead foot and weekly redlines, I still manage mid 15's per gallon and that's like 90% city driving. At 80-85 on the fwy I get 20 mpg.

The old GM 3.8L turbos used to be that way. You'd watch the needle creep down slowly as you flew down the drag strip.

I would only see a minor decrease in city gas mielage when i redlined, and hardly any on the highway...

The Q is a gas guzzler... Who cares if it gets 15 vs 13... I dont, the extra money in losing 2mpg is worth FAR less than extra enjoyment I get.

No, if I cared about gas mileage, I would go buy an New Corvette. With 400HP on tap, it still manages to get over 25MPG.

Oh, do you guys realize that we are running out of oil? <-- I'd like to hear what Fred has to say about this.

its not that bad. look at it this way- after world war 3, when all the humans are dead and the world is back in order, give it 100-300 million years for humans to re-evolve. by that time there will be plenty of oil.

this will continue on for eternity, or 4.5 billion years; whichever is shorter.

Supply and demand. When oil supply runs out, technology will compensate. Anytime the world faced a supply crisis, technological advances stepped in to increase supply or change demand to another resource.
