I took my QX4 in for a bunch of work including the replacement of the throttle position sensor and a transmission fluid flush and filter replacement. The service is a complete fluid replacement, not just s drain and fill.

This is my mechanic of 15 years whom I trust. the head mechanic was also a transmission mechanic for 8 years before coming to this shop. I called and they had me bring it back up. We took it for a test drive and they said it was OK. They explained what it was doing and together we went through the written Infinit test procedure and it passed with flying colors.

I should be comfortable, but the change in behavior is dramatic, so I thought I would hit you guys up.

When driving in freeway traffic, we often use the throttle to regulate our speed slightly to adjust to the flow of traffic. I am not talking about dramatic speed changes, just subtle adjustment. Prior to the service, when I would let off the gas, the rpm's would stay high for 2-3 second before dropping. When I did get back on the throttle, the rpm's would raise for 4-5 seconds before the trans would go into lockup. On the other end, when I neded to accelerate, I *believe* I had to give 1/2 throttle before lockup would release and 3/4-full before it would kick out of overdrive (D4).

After the service, the transmission releases the instant I let off the throttle. When I give it gas again, the rpm's raise and the trans goes back into lockup within 1-2 seconds. It will also release much sooner when accelerating. It will let go at 1/4 throttle and shift out of O/D at 1/2 throttle.

This is much different than before, but it behaves according to the factory test-drive specs. The mechanic's belief is that the malfunctioning TPS and the aged trans fluid were preventing it from functioning properly. Keep in mind that I bought this in December with 112k miles, so I haven't had a lot of experience with this vehicle.

How do your vehicles perform?

P.S. I should mention that the shift shock from 1st to 2nd is much better, but still noticable.

mine does pretty much what you described in the post-service part. ive heard of that before on a different vehicle and was told that it was due to the new fluid working like it should, and the fact that a new filter will flow better than a used one therefore the torque converter will kick in quicker. i had an old car way back in the day that actually stopped shifting altogether due to an old filter.
