I'm feeling a little paranoid but when i'm on the freeway and going on 5th gear around 3k rpm, i would be going 65-70mph depending on road condition(slight uphill or downhill).

I have a stock ca with ca transmission and a vlsd off a 96 180sx

I have the 4.36final drive but then again I have 225/50/16 (f) and 245/50/16(r) and I do about 60mph at 3k in 5th, i know cause I have tested it with one of those police radars that are on the side of the street numerous times.

And this is with a USDM speed sensor and stock tires/rear-end/ transmission, the speed-o is only off by about 3-4 mph tested with a cops radar gun. And the tach is correct from what i can tell, same speeds at same RPM the Ka used to be at with stock tach.

I don't understand... the CA has the same gear ratios as the KA, so it should read the same (ie: ~70mph @ 3k). Only difference in S-chassis trannies is with the SR which has a slightly taller 5th.

EDIT: I'm wrong... its the CA that has the lower 5th gear...

Yeah, I don't like the idea of having my engine run at 4000k (or 110km/h) for 2 hours straight if I plan on going out to my cabin in the summer. Is there anything I should do besides getting a better cooling system?

Edited my post above... I was wrong. CA has a slightly lower 5th gear ratio .838 vs .759 in the KA/SR

Hell, I went 75-80mph (3.90 w/ a stock 81 L28E) @ 3000rpms

Only 68mph calculated with a ca18det transmission

LOL! I just plugged mine in there. CA 5th gear + 4.363 Diff @ 7K RPM = 136mphI'll be turning about 3600RPMS @ 70 mph. That's funny....

There is absolutly no way that at 3000 rpm im only doing 62mph, im pasing everyone in sight and they do about 65-70, while my speed-o is reading 75. The only thing I can think of is my brand new auto-meter tach is off? I hope not. But it shows that correct idle rpm. And shows the same RPM as the stock ka tach showed for the same amount of speed. Is it possible that my transmission has a different gear set, The fluid was really clear and new, plus 1st goes about 38-40 then second to about 68-70. I can damn near get 105 outta third. 4th nails the speed limiter as soon as i get into 4th from the top of third.

you have larger wheels on your car? ive got some 17s on mine and it causes the speedometer to be off by about 5mph.

i can get about 25 out of first, 45 out of 2nd if im lucky.... im turning 3600 at 65 on the interstate. why is my car geared like this? is it possible ive got some kind of crazy nissan motorsports gearset or ring gear? its just really odd.

stock wheels, stock sized tires, stock diff.(open), The transmission was very clean. the input shaft looked very clean, the half-a-quart of fluid that was left in it was nice and clear still. I dunno but the gearing seems longer then my ka's gearing. And the only possibility is that my tach is off, but if so its progressively off as the rpms increase. The idle rpm on the tach is correct. I dunno im stumped but Im going to put a video up on videos.streetfire.net of me going through 2nd,shifting around 7krpm, to third then letting off of third at about 7k rpm, I think I may be able to pull 110-115 out of third. I dunno but im not going to try either.

Ok i checked using one of those police things on the streets. My speedometer reads 5mph faster than what it really is. I wonder is that linear though, like would it be 10 mph less as speeds go higher =\

I think it is very possible to pull such speeds out of 3rd gear. At 7550rpm, my car is at 115mph, so it isn't totally out of the question.
