hey folks i have a major issue of blow-by in my redtop. i would like to clean it (cylinders and intake manifold) out so i can sell the car as a whole instead of parting it out. what are some options i have for a good cleaning? i am 85% positive it will not happen again, because i found that i had my crank case vacuum lines run incorrectly and have since remedied that situation. please let me know guys and gals. THANKS!

Blow by is caused by bad piston rings. The only way to fix it is to re-ring the bottom end. But, if the cylinders are worn more than .005", then you have to bore the block and replace the pistons, basicly a total rebuild. If you had a breather problem and that was it, I wouldn't worry about it. DO NOT TRY TO CLEAN THE CYLINDER WALLS! Any residual oil in there will get used, (if the rings are good).

thanks for the words i didnt want to hear guys!!! hahaha. but really i apreciate it. so, you think if i gotta sell the car fast, just part it out. unless, of course, the buyer wants to rebuild.... would that be wise to do?

I was getting blow-by badly when I had my valve shims out of order. I put them in order, Now no blow-by! I cleaned my intake mani with a wire brush and carb cleaner. You could do it the lazy way and induct seafoam or similar products threw the intake/vacuum. That's how the pro mechanics do it.

Blow by can be also caused by not properly Venting the crankcase and head.
