how does bump and rebound control work in most coilovers?

Have megan coilover. While reading an article about suspension tuning in Dsport 33, I came to wonder how one would adjoust bump and rebound control on this megan which doesn't seem to have a seperate control for bump and rebound settings. How does bump and rebound control can be adjousted in coilover like this?

with the knob on the top. it does both.

I read that article in Dsport, thought it was awesome. Though, a little too technical for not having gone to the track yet. Great info though.

Can't you also adjust bump and rebound by preloading the spring? I wouldn't want to tread there without some serious skills, knowledge and tools in hand, but I'm pretty sure this would also effect it.

As for adjusting bump and rebound independently like the article talks about, I would think that you would have to have a very advanced setup to do that. Either that, or, there is no way to effect one without effecting the other( like adjusting the strut with the turn of a knob effects BOTH bump and rebound).

any expensive sus will have seperatley controlable bump and rebound. tein rs, n1, high end superfunctions, cuscos, blah blah. basically any setup with a seperate resivor will have this function (disregard retarded d drug coilovers). really expensive sus will have low and high speed bump adjustment. moton, penske, ohlins, etc. to my knowledge, preload is independant of bump and rebound, as thoes are functions of the damper, while preloading only changes the characteristics of the spring (again this is just my understanding, may be wrong.)

Sounds right to me. Though a stiffer spring would rebound more quickly right?

uhh i guess if you go just by the deffinition of the word but thats not what is meant by rebound when applied to shock absorber technology...
