How do you tell the difference between 07 & 08 Versa Hatchback SL just by looking at it. The 07 looks exactly like the 08 and I just can't see a difference. What are the best ways of telling the difference?

There's nothing you can immediately point to and say "that's different" between the two years.

So, the best and easiest way to tell the difference between the two is the VIN number. the 10th digit is the year code. an '07 will be "7" and an '08 will be an "8".

Actually the exterior is different. Around the window's (the plastic part on the 07's) are painted on the '08.

Not according to the pictures on Nissan's website.

Anyone with an '08 that ISN'T black care to verify this?

Wanna know a secret, CodeRed?

They're ALL painted... 07 or 08...

The reason yours looks like your paint is because someone removed the black tape that is normally form-fitted over that part of the body.

Anyone who takes the time to remove this will find their car's paint color underneath. That's because they paint the door, then assemble the door. During the assembly, they place a black tape layer over the outside window frame to make it look black on all models.

I don't know Geoff. On my last V I had a rock hit it on the highway right on the pillar and it didn't look to be painted underneath. But it sure did rust fast.

It's painted underneath. I was actually having a discussion with Kimber about this last night because of this thread, and I was sitting in my car with the door open looking at it. On my car, it's very clearly Blue Onyx underneath that tape. I just don't want to remove it because it would be a PITA, and the tape helps protect the paint that's under it. But if you need me to, I can try to take pictures of what I'm talking about. I don't have a real good camera, it tends to blur on close-ups.

Hey, I checked out one difference! The hazard light switch is on the right side of the dash while the airbag warning is on the left. On some 07 models these are switched around.

The Hazard is on the right and Airbag light is on the left for my '07.

Even on the '07s some came with the airbag on the right some on the left.

Right, the switched placement of the warning light and hazard switch occurred after the November 2006 production change, IIRC.

My '07 (manufactured June 07) has the warning light on the left and the hazard switch on the right. My first '07 (manufactured June 06) had the warning light on the RIGHT and the switch on the LEFT.

So again, best way to tell is the 10th digit of the VIN.

My '07 S has an 'S' decal on the trunk. I've noticed S hatches without the S and thought maybe just the body style.

I parked behind another S sedan last night and it was missing the decal... do '08 S models come without a decal?

Actualy I don't think they do. I remember driving around and seeing a hatch with just the "versa" and no S or SL. I just assumed that it was a S

I am assuming you own a 08 Hatch. Most S produce in 07 has no badge, i dont have one and it came from teh factory that way. That is by far the easiest way to tell between an O7 and 08 Hatch unless someone Remove the Sticker, but they prob remove the Nissan Badge too. or Added one on.

Mine's an '08 and I don't have a badge. If that helps.

Doesn't sound right... call Nissan's customer support for your country and run the Vin by them, ask them what it is.

I'd steer you to Carfax, but that only works on units sold in the US or Canada.

I just drove home with my new Versa SL 1.8 6MT with Sport and Tech and it has the SL on the rear right side :D I live in Canada. Maybe in USA they strip the stickers?

And yet, in my signature right above this post, it clearly shows a Versa SL from the US with badging.

It could be that some specific dealers debadge, or that Nissan just doesn't bother to put them on when the run low or out at the factory.
