There was a noise coming from what I think was my left upper link, but it stopped after I resealed my rack. Is it just more worn out than before, or was it something else making the noise?

Is there another way to tell if the upper links are bad? Feathering of the outer edges of front tires? Slight vibration at 85-90 MPH ? Put the car in the air and check for play? Remove and inspect?

Mine just squeaked....and only in temperatures below 50 degrees... of course I didn't replace them until about 120k miles in a 90Q...

Probably one of the easiest DIY on a Q... I don't think you can mess the job up....probably takes 30 minutes once you get the wheel off..... others can probably do it in 10 minutes... big noticeable difference in handling... in my opinion.... that and tokico blues go along way...

I didn't think about the temp change. In the week the car was down (waiting on parts, stupid DHL) the temps rose a good bit.

If you pulled the sway bar and greased the bushings during the rack work, that may have cured the noise you thought was from the upper links. The best way I've heard to check them is to remove the link and see if the center of the bushing is still in the center. If it's offset to one side it's toast.

This is outlined in the FSM how much deflection is permitted. Tangalora may have posted also.

I didn't grease the sway bar, but I did clean off all of the crud where the bushings rode.

I cleaned everything with elbow grease and brake parts cleaner before putting it back together, just in case I had to pull the rack out again.

I know I should have replaced the bushings considering the car's mileage, but It's not like they are labor intensive to replace.

The TSB outlines how much deflection is so very very bad that the factory will pay if in warranty! Not necessarily the amount a decerning owner would want. ZERO movement.

They seem to last 30-40k on my Q.
