is there a way to tell if a manual transmission is good before i install it? the shifter is removed but if i bolt it to the transmission should I be able to shift through the gears? I just want to be sure its a good manual transmission before I install it. I bought it used for my 91 240

MAkes sure it does into all gears smoothly, make sure there are no case leaks, and hope the syncros are good.

Yes it will shift, the only time when it doesn't go into gears by itself is when it requires you to push the clutch. Which, off course, is when the engine is running.
