Anybody here know of how to remove your headliner or a link as how to do it for any car (4-door). I want to change my headliner to black suede. The last owner of my 97q was a smoker and it has some really ugly cig.. burns

Don't know specifically for the '97 Q, but start with removing the sun visors and the dome light(s). You'll probably also have to remove your a-, b-, and probably c-pillar trims. That's what I had to do in wifey's '94 GS300. Good luck.

On the G50, I started at the rear and removed things going forward. If you break a clip, you don't want the front falling on your head.

My plan was to clean it real good, but when I got it out, I decided to cover it in suede. But then I couldn't find a piece of suede big enough so I used a really nice faux that I found at an upholstery store.

you have to take all the trim down where the "OH CRAP" handles are , and I think the trim for the A, B and C pillars are... Main trouble area is around the sunroof, be very careful. It is held in with like a lip, you want to pull thelip off...

I left all the old material. Alright, here you go:

- Measure your headliner and buy the appropriate-size piece of material.

- Pick up some medium to heavy strength aerosol adhesive ($6) and a firm 6 inch foam paint roller ($3 ). You can get both at Home Depot or WalMart.

- Lay out your material and iron it on the back side (low heat, a little steam).

- Fill a thick 13 gallon trash bag (doubled) with water (4-6 gallons should do it) or sand (depending where you live; you're on your own for how much, but I would guess around 5-7 pound would probably do it). You may need 2 or three of these - possibly 4. You could just use one big bag, but I think it would be a lot more difficult to work with.

- Remove your headliner and find a good place to work (well-ventilated, so the glue doesn't make you sick).

- Run a lint roller over the headliner, then lay the material over it to make sure it's enough.

- Spray a quarter section at a time of the headliner and the corresponding section of material with adhesive (not too much glue; a thin mist on one piece and a slightly finer mist on the other piece will do). Let the adhesive tack up a bit, maybe 30 seconds - read the can - then lay the material down.

- Set a heavy book or something in the center of the headliner, then lightly pull from the center out to the edges, using the roller to remove the wrinkles. Another pair of hands wouldn't hurt here. Leave about an inch and a half overlap on all sides. - Take your trash bag full of whatever and set it down on the section you just glued down. The contents of the back will hug the curves of the headliner while still putting pressure down on the rest of the surface. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes.

- Repeat on the other 3 sections. Let the whole thing set up for about an hour with the bags, then another 30-45 minutes without them so the glue can breathe a little better. As long as your material isn't too heavy and the adhesive is quality stuff, it'll be sag-free.

- Glue the extra overlap you left on the outside edges. Use a razor or Exacto or something to cut out all the holes you need and put everything back together.

There you go. Have at it. Let me know how it comes out and post the pics here.
