1997 Pathfinder SE 4x4- Posted this in the Pathfinder forums but thought I'd ask here also. Trying to remove the VSS on my 97 Pathfinder SE 4x4. FSM simply says "remove". Looks easy enough. One small bolt and pull it out but the freakin thing won't budge. Tried tapping it lightly with a hammer to loosen it up and pulling it as hard as I can with pliers but it won't move at all. Even tried locking vise grips on it and prying on the grips but even that doesn't budge it, not the least bit. Does it just pull out or is there a trick to this  . Can't find anything that would indicate it doesn't just pull out. Its starting to crumble apart trying to get it off. Help me before I do something stupid. TIA

Dave

I ran into the same thing on my '95 Q45... Try placing it in gear, on jackstands, and turn the engine (large socket and breaker bar on crank pulley bolt)... Seems to me that was the answer on mine.

The gears are angled, and they mesh with a gear inside that needs to turn slightly to release tension on the VSS gear.
