Vise Grips are often the only way. Sometimes those things are like chemically bonded, it gets nuts.

They're locktited from the factory. Either spend ALOT of time twisting it off (worked for me) and keep it nice looking, or take a pair of vise-grips to is as the wise master said.

Again, I just toughed it out and twisted it. Alot.

Have you tried channel locks or a pipe wrench. If it has been cross threaded you are going to have a hard time.

Might sound funny but I used a jar opener on mine, the one that has the thick rubber band, channel locks just kept slipping. Came off with one turn of the jar opener. Wife is the one that mentioned trying it, go figure they are always right

Gotta work out those forearms more often man. lol

Really tho, don't worry, you won't hurt the shifter itself (and if you do its all the more reason to get a short throw) just use vice grips and go nuts.

try lifting more weights and using a rubber coated glove... if that doesn't work use a monkey wrench.

Use a knife. Or a saw. Maybe a plasma torch. Cut the damn thing off.

OR

You could always just buy a short throw shifter and put your original knob on that. Two birds, one stone. Of course, you may not be able to afford that...

try searching... it has been discussed before. i had to you a washcloth, huge byscripts, and a friend. had friend hold the shifter under the knob so i didnt break anything, and just turned as hard as i could. pop and she was loose.

yeah thats what I did, two big vice grips, two rubber mats for friction. brother held the one one the shifter, I held one on the shift knob, and I just yanked it. It was indeed covered in locktite once we got it off. I should also mentioned that this stripped the (pimp) leather cover off my factory shift knob, and left grooves in it from the vice grips.

Wait...you used the vice grips on the factory shift knob? I thought you had one that was ugly, and needed to get THAT one off to replace it with the stock one...

Either way, you should have used a plasma torch

I finally got it off.. and changed to the CF nismo one.. I think the pre owner is crazy.. he installed one of those weird kind, I had to un screw the ring was on the base of the knob clock wise. then there are 3 more screws. and i couldn't get them because i didn't have the key for them. I had to take my car to the shop and have them to un screw them for me.. and they charged me. whatever.. got the the knob off. and discovered that the shifter was cut short. jus for that little ugly knob.

Wait...they "key" should have just been a hex key. Maybe a Torx. Either way, you could have picked up a whole set for under $5. The shop ripped you off, man.
