I'm trying to get the plastic part that shows the gear (PRDN321) off. Is there some sort of secret to this?

Pry off the plastic/leather molding that surrounds the shifter, then there is like 4 bolts or screws that holds the shifter components to the floor.

What exactly do you mean by 'pry off'? I have undone the 4 screws that hold the plastic gate piece that the shifter moves through. But obviously I cannot bring that up over the handle part with the button on top that you depress to move it from park. Do I need to pry down the plastic collar at the bottom of the leather? Should the leather piece come up off the metal shaft so that I can take the plastic gate part up and off the shifter completely to access underneath?

I can't find any instruction in the manual about this.

I was once told the button you push down on will snap out ,Then under that is the nut that holds the shift handle on.

That sounds like it would make sense. I might have to give that a whirl. I'd love for someone who knows for sure to chime in though.

Sup jertapper!!! Welcome to NICO!!!

So you live in Mobile, too?? Great!!!

Don't know much about your situation; that's why I'm here...to study the J30. Especially since I'm thinking of buying one.

I'd like to see pics of it, if you don't mind. As far as I know, there are only a handful of modded J30s around. I plan to be one of them someday.

I see quite a few j's around. I can't imagine they are all running on the original shocks. I just finished doing all of mine. It's way too expensive to replace the shocks on these cars. For how many I see around I thougth for sure there would be something aftermarket you could get.

Regarding the topic of this post, I couldn't easily get the 'push button' to pop off. It seemed to me it was about to break. I guess I'll just leave it. I'd love for someone who knows for sure how to get it off to tell me how.

The plastic that slides with the gearshift is cracked and a piece came out...so I wanted to put it back and glue the crack to stop it from worsening.

I tried to mess with it without being able to get the plastic gate piece off the shifter and ended up breaking the piece and breaking one of the two working pieces that cover the gate. Now the top piece doesn't move down when you shift gears

I'd still like to know how to get the shifter knob off so if I could find one at the junkyard I could get to what I needed and be able to put it on mine without breaking stuff.
