How do you remove shift knob?

Brute force or(CVT model)?I am trying to open that compartment to get rid of the noises that come from there.

If you pull down on the small chrome trim piece just below the leather portion of the knob, it will pop free, exposing a screw. Things should come apart pretty simply from that point.

PS, it does take more force than you would think, but it will pop.
