how do you put the #1 piston on TDC?

i have a 90 240sx with the ka24e... im trying to change my timing chain and all that goodstuff but this step in the service manual is killing me... how do i go about doing this?

I know it has to do with the distributor but thats about all I know.

I've heard the easiest way to do it is to take out the spark plug, put some tissue in the hole and keep bumping the ignition. and uh...**** I forgot the rest maybe that's it.
