Hmmm my friend corrected me awhile back when I said "I-bock"... he was rather certain it's "A-bock" with a long A sound..

I used to think it was knee-zmo as well since it's knee-san. These Japanese companies are always throwing me off!

Tein - "Tain"

Really, Nismo is pronounced "Nizz-moe" not "Knee-zmo"? I thought the correct way was "Knee-zmo" because the "i" in Japan is pronounced as "e".

Hmmm...I've always pronounced it "Tee-un"......................

As for the whole Nismo thing...logically speaking, Phobs is correct. In Japanese, there is no "nih" sound, so "nizz-mo" would be incorrect. That being said, I'm sure when we all say Nissan, it comes out as "nii-san", right? Well, when I was growing up, my entire family referred to it as "nih-san" and I'm pretty sure that's what the majority of North America called it until recently. Therefore, it stands to reason why Nismo is currently spoken as "nizz-mo".

To the OP: ...it's still "eye-bock"

yeahh, I found out that recently too. People at Tein call themselves as "tain" and a while back there was an ad for tein with their slogan something like "No gain, no Tein" Also I believe BRIDE is pronounced as "brid"

'Datsun' was much easier! Then, I guess, we'd have 'Datsmo'... no big deal!

Eye-bock. (I asked a German friend).

Arrrghhh! My boyfriend says "En-kay" and I used to too, but some of his car-fanatic friends and the guy at Discount Tire pronounced it as "Inky" which got me all confused. Is it for sure "En-kay"?

Regarding NISMO, it is an abbreviation of Nissan Motorsports Internation Limited. Only US pronounces "Nissan" as Nee-Sahn. Everyone else pronounces it more as Niss-ahn or Niss-ehn. Hence Niz-Moe. This is due to differences in syllable emphasis in the languages.

It depends on what part of the US you live in.

In Texas, that stuff you change every 3K miles is called 'All'.

They would probably say 'Eye-back' Or just 'Sprang'.

I spend alot of time in Huntersville, NC just North of Charlotte and believe me when I say NC is way more HillBilly than Texas. If someone here actually said "Sprang" they're either way out in the country or they were just shipped in from Alabama, Georgia, or one of the Carolina's.

Not sure if my 1 semester of college German qualifies me to speak here, but I would think it would be pronounced as "eye-bock"
