Was wondering how everyone pays for their car addiction? I know it's impolite to ask about peoples finacial status but I'm curious.

Do you have a phatty job? A crappy job that you blow your entire paycheck? Credit cards maxed out? Bank loans? Sold your baseball card collection?

Sold the 99 civic and bought a old ford ranger for cheap for daily/winter driving, all the extra cash to the 240.

Credit cards :). Though I hope to pay them off almost entirely once I get my 240 running and sell my other car.

Run a network at a local prep school and I'm a student at a local college.:)

Once I sell the WRX, 240 mods will happen much faster.

No debt (aside from the WRX). I stay away from cc cards. I only buy parts if I have the CASH. I'm a firm believer in that. I made all my cc mistakes when I was still a teen and fortunately learned my lesson.

I have a girlfriend in law school too. Once she graduates and gets a job...bwuhahahaha...fun times.:devil

I have a really cool laid back job as a graphic designer/photographer for a wholesale distribution warehouse that does not pay very much. However it affords me the time to play on this board all day and make just enough to cover bills and monthly payments on the $10k loan I took to do my SR swap. Broke wannabe drifter...

I payed for my 240 with some money I saved from my job and my Income Tax Check, and I keep it alive by working as a service technician.

Kewl it seems that everyone is pretty mixed. One thing everyone has in common is the 240sx.

As far as the credit cards I'm working my way out and can tell others that it's not worth it. Pay in cash. I'm hoping to buy a 240sx cheap like less then $1k then sell my MX-3 for the engine.

Thats the plan at least. Hoping to have it done by summer. I although sometimes think I should hold off and buy a WRX when I get a descent paying job. I'm a graphic designer, 1 year out of school and still no job. That's what I get for moving to Portland, OR.

Naaah, buy mine.;)

Seriously though, take your time and wait. Don't make any big purchases until you are in a secure job. Stick with the $1k cars for now and when you have a fat savings account, get a nice ride.

I have a pretty cozy job...but the cost of living in Jersey is accelerating out of control, so $$ for the S13 are hard to come by. I have to save for a while.

After I get my book done and published, hopefully I'll have a lot more cash to spend on getting it up to speed. That's at least another year, though....arggghh...

I work at Radio Shack for now... It doesnt pay that much but its enough for mods. The car and the engine thats going into it is thanks to my dearly departed Audi that I totaled about a month back. I used to use credit cards and school loans to buy mods for my previous cars, but thats all over now. I used the money from the car to pay off all those debts too so now im debt free and whatever mods I get for this car will be cash because Im getting rid of all the credit cards.

He's got the right idea here. Personally, I sell my body to the LAMs (Local Area Milfs). They usually buy in 1-2 hour time blocks and this allows me plenty of free time and TONS of spending cash.

Whats your book going to be about?

As far as the computer industry. Most places are holding off on hiring. The IT field seems to have some growth. It's funny when I started, companies where like "If you can turn on a computer your hired". Now the common graphic design job ad lists video editing, server side programing, networking and so much more. Then they only offer $19k.

If your in college right now do internships and volunteer work. It can be a pain in the butt but every advantage counts.

:Werd I decided(actually the credit agency decided for me) about 5 years ago I would just pay with cash from now on. It's actually worked a lot better for me now. My debts almost paid off and my budgeting is a lot easier without having to worry about using credit. Luckily I make crazy chedda' (for my area)although I do bust my *** for it. I also sell a few cars on the side and that pays for mods and such.

I make a fair amount (about 35,000 a year) I work at NASA as a Computer Tech. I have 1 bill, my insurance (300/month) other than that I have NO clue what I spend my money on. I guess I just bought the 91. Other than that it just seems to dissapear. I've only done a few mods. Ehh.. I guess i'm saving for an SR now. Which is close to impossible it seems. Do you guys make a lot more money than me or do you just budget better?

David.
