Red Top RB20DETs I know came in the 200zr. I am curious what else they came in. I have a friend that has a red top and it does not have a top mount intercooler he says. I know that 200zrs had a top mount but it could have been switched to a front mount. Is there any way to id that it is a 200zr engine and trans or what else did it come out of?Thanks

I believe teh RB20DET was available in some low level skyline chassis, I am also pretty sure that the stock 200ZR had no intercooler at all and just had an over the top pipe from the turbo outlet to the throttlebody, perhaps some skyline came with the top mount ? not sure why the donor would matter the RB20DET was the smallest of the rb family if you want more power step up to the rb25det

All 200ZR models had a top mount intercooler. That's the reason all 200ZR models have a hood scoop.

I thought the 84-85 200ZR hood was the same adn the 300ZX but the lines on the hoodhump lined up with the headlights more like the later domestic hoods with the later headlights?

Nope. 84-86 200ZR had a wide hood scoop similar to the fox body mustangs. The 87-89 200ZR scoops were smaller.

84-86 200ZR:

87-89 200ZR:

There were a lot of differences in between the US and Japanese Z31 models. Besides motor options, the bodies were different depending on engine in Japan. And the fog lights (if they had them) were below the bumper level. They were NEVER next to the headlights in Japan. (the car pictured above has been modified with the US style headlights and fog lights)
