First off, you definately don't need a rebuild. When I first bought my car, the exact same freeze plug leaked as a result of being rusted.

First drain your coolant out of your engine. Then remove your exhaust manifold and anyhting else in the way. After that, you can simply take a socket and using a hammer hit it out of the hole (do not hit it dead on, but at an angle). After that take yoru new freeze plug (which you can get at your local Nissan dealership, and make sure its metal) and put permatex sealant around the edge of the plug, then using a socket and hammer, hammer it into the hole. Put everything back together, refill coolant, bleed coolant, and VIOLA, no more leaking antifreeze.

I've driven my car for 7 months after replacing the freeze plug and I haven't had any problems at all.

I think the same way. Although you could just replace, but I always think of my last resort first.

After you fix that small problem put some water wetter or brands that are similar it prevents corrosion, and keeps engine temps lower. Sorry to see that your cap is rusted out, my engine is pretty old and that hasn't happend to me yet.......(knock on wood).

I used permatex sealer around the freeze plug to seal any imperfections in the block. Now as for the socket and hammer. I used about a 15mm socket to tap out the existing freeze plug. So tap it near the top or bottom and try to make the opposite side swing out.

The sealant is a must. I've replace freeze plugs in the past. They're a piece of cake to do as long as you can get to them. It would be easier and safer to replace the plug than to weld over the damage.

You can also use the rubber freeze plugs.Just install them and turn the bolt until is sealed. Now, dunno how it will handle te KA exhaust mani heat
