how do you find the a/r on a turbo??

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

I recently went junkyard hunting and picked up a kkk turbo off of a mercedes 300d. I found out that it is a k26 turbo, but i cant seem to find the specs on anything else. It doesn't state the a/r on the housing. I tried to measure the a/r, (area of the scroll area divided by the radius from center of shaft to center of that scroll area) but the numbers dont come out right. Maybe Im doing something wrong? I have the turbo completely apart at the moment and these are the measurements i got on the compressor and turbine wheels.

compressor wheel: 66mm diameter on the widest partturbine wheel: 65mm diameter

anyone knows the specs on a t3 or t4? Im also trying to find out what this turbo is comperable to.It looks like this turbo might be compared to a big t3 or a t3/t4?Ive searched everywhere on the internet and came up with nothing on this model.

I know on Turbonetics' turbine housings the A/R is on the inside of the inlet, now yours could possibly be the same. You might want to clean the inside and see if it is. On the compressor side I am not so sure, hopefully some one can shed more light on this.

nope, its not marked on the inside.

another thing, I just want to find out if this turbo would be efficient for my ka-t project. thanks

Where did you measure the area of the nozzle? I'm thinking you may have measured it at the wrong point.

As far as the wheel measurements, the outer diameter only tells part of the story. Measure the minor diameter as well. But to comment, the turbine is within the range of a T3 which is available in 2.319, 2.559, and 2.798 inches. The compressor size is between a T3 and T04B compressor which measure 2.367 and 2.750 inches respectively. It will probably work on a KA, but there is no way to be sure how well it will perform without having the compressor maps.

check out the link: http://www.hotrod.com/techarti....html

Go about half way down the page to the diagram about a/r. Thats how I measured it.

I got the area of the section divided by 2 (because its only the section of the cross section right?) and divided it by the radius.

(3.14 X r squared)/2 right? then divided that by R(radius from shaft to center section in the scroll.

Am I doing the calc's right?
