how do you find out the year of a motor???help please!!!

the person that sold me a vg30de gave me the wrong ecu......so i need to figure out the year of the engine to get the ecu i need to run it......is there some kind of code somewhere on the motor that will tell me this????

year shouldn't matter, sp long as you have an ecu intended for a vg30de it should work
