I just got some new front rotors and I've been told that I should clean the oil the rotors were packaged in off. What is the best way to do this? I've read some place that soapy water and steel wool is the best way. Is that true?

Thanks.

Brake cleaner was specifically made for this task among others to do with the brakes, hence the name.

If it's not on a surface where the brake pads are contacing the rotor, why worry about it? I second the suggestion to use brake cleaner, since as it was pointed out, that's what the stuff is for. Spray, wipe, spray, wipe, enjoy.

brake cleaner has no abbrasive action, remember that. stoptech reccomends dish soap with a scotchbrite pad, and it is what i do with mine.
