How do you adjust the hood release cable on a 1993 convertible

I tried the search but came up empty. How do you adjust the hood release cable? I have a 1993 convertible. My cable is to short causing my hood not to lock properly. I currently disconnected the cable and hooked up a pull cable so I can open it from under the car till I can figure out how to adjust the cable. The cable extending from the metal tip and black plastic sheath is not long enough causing my hood not to fully latch. Can I remove some of the black sheathing causing the metal tip to extend further or can it be adjusted under the dash to allow more cable to extend past the plastic sheathing under the hood
