How do you adjust coilover height while it's on the vehicle?

I have the Megan Racing Coilovers on a 1995 240sx. I set the coilovers for the stock height and installed them. Now I want to to lower the ride height and am unsure of the exact procedure, or if it can be done while installed. I know it has something to do with the spring perch and two locking rings. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I wouldn't adjust it with the springs. You should unbolt them and twist the shockbody like sXi said.

im not familiar with your coilover, my flt-a2's have independent spring and height adjustments, if yours are the same then the way i adjust the height of mine is i jack the car up, take the wheel off, unbolt the strut on the bottom (where it connects to the upright/hub area) loosen the lock nut on the strut (if yours are the same as mine the shock itself should screw into the lower part of the strut that hooks to the upright, this is the piece that determines ride height), then adjust the height, and put everything back together. unless these coilovers do not have independent adjustments, the spring perches should not be touched when adjusting ride height, they should be secured with no preload on the spring, meaning the springs should be just snug enough not to move around when they are fully extended. if you have helper springs in the rear then the manufacturer of the coilover should have a recommended distance to compress them.

alternatively, you do not really have to unhook the strut from the upright, you can simply loosen the same lock nut on the strut (the one that secures the piece i reffered to) and turn the shock body itself inside of this piece which will adjust the height the same as if having it unhooked in the first explanation. the piston turns inside of the shock cylinder so it will turn freely, and if the lower spring perch is snug, the whole spring assembly will turn along with the shock body so it will not change your preload.

i prefer the first method personally, its easier for me to match them up.

you dont have to unbolt anything. just take the wheel off, loosten the perches, and grab the shock tower and turn it. use gloves or somthing or the threads will cut up your hands after a while.
