Almost nobody worries about protecting their intercoolers. I have installed a 2mph :-) bar to help support the hood lock's panel.

In my Datto the radiator is only 6 inches from the front of the blow and 3/4 engine from the front of the crank pulley. I have no 'crush space', if I have a front ender accident. That's the risk I have to take.If I was installing one in a S13, I'd definitely move it all back as far as possible. Mounting the intercooler where the radiator is, and moving the radiator back towards the engine. Replace the engine-powered fan with a thermo fan, would be what I'd do. Be sure to add panels to ensure air is forced through the radiator, otherwise the engine will overheat at high speed.

I don't know what the 2mph bar is you're talking about?

I have my intercooler mounted under the core support in front of the radiator, behind where the hood latch would be.

IDK, if that will work or not. I just took my bad one down there and had them match it up.

As for the intercooler, I did it simply because I was trying to keep the intercooler piping as short as possible.

I just bought another 240 and I think I may go liquid to air to make it as short as it could possibly be and still have an intercooler.

2mph bar. Havin a bit of a joke. I was talking about anything is better than nothin. In case I hit a kangaroo or something.

So many people have no protection on their intercooler and get seriously out of pocket when a small animal steps in the way.

I may actually sell my setup in the next month or so. I think I'm gonna go with a liquid to air.

As a rule of thumb most don't like to remove safety devices from their car. But if you are in a wreck that 5 mph bumper won't do sh*t anyways.

that 5mph bumper is a main brace in the front end of the 240sx it ties the frame rails together, there is no reason what so ever to even remove it. trim it to fit , i have fit all kinda of huge cores behind it. you wont increase airflow by taking it off, and at 10mph it might just save you from having to repurchase another FMIC. we installed a FMIC for a customer and the next day he rear ended a festiva at 10-20 mph the only reason his FMIC survived was due to the bumper being inplace.

I have to agree with Jon on this one. When I had my 3 core FMIC on my car, I think it took me 5 min with an air cutter to remove the little bit of metal I needed to clear the intercooler.

did you also cut the US bumper to fit the silvia front, or are you using a silvia (metal) bumper?

i couldnt get the kit bumper to fit over the support (the metal bumper)

but then again, my silvia didnt have front *OR* rear bumpers when i stripped it, if it did, i probably would have grabbed them too
