I was having a little debate with an old friend about how a Japanese person would pronounce Silvia. She's big into japanese culture, so she thought she knew. She thought it was shuribia or something like that, because there are certain english letters that they can't say very well. So to you guys living in Japan: how do the japanese people pronounce SILVIA?

BTW, don't think this I'm some ricer trying to be JDM tyte and start pronouncing silvia the way the japanese do.. I just wanna end a little healthy debate... :)

shi ru bi ashee roo bee ah

it's not cause they can't say the sounds, it's cause the sounds aren't part of the language or writing system and that's as close as they can get.

If you watch original initial D videos the L is pronounced it kinda sounds like Sheelvia an Sheel 80. My favorite is Effa Shee (FC3S) crazy japanese :-)

japanese doesn't have R or L the way english does. it has an R that is more similar to a spanish single-R. they use that R to approximate our R AND L.
