I've noticed that I used to be listed as "driving Mom's car" and then something else, and then another, and another, etc.

Just curious. What determines these monikers? Does someone (a moderator of some sort) flip a bit somewhere based on heuristics?

Or does it happen automatically (for example, based purely on the number of posts)?

Does the desription serve any function other than tell prospective users the 'net worth' (of sorts) of the poster?

Can one search on all posts made by members of any particular class?

What is this thing?

I'm curious,Tangalora

After a while it takes more posts before you get another name. Like a step ladder. You go up and get a higher ranking. Its how I think of it.

Quote »Love the sight of a topped off fuel tank[/quote]Yeah. And it's real too. Ever since I found out the common Q45 fuel pump & controller failures are due to overheating, I keep my petrol above the half-way mark. Plus it helps reduce the amount of H20 condensation.

I had entertained the thought of snapping a shot of my gages (gauges?) with the needles pegged, but my speedo is intermittent - it alternates about weekly between doing its job and extended coffee break. This week, it seems to be on the government payroll, so, I can't get it to creep above a couple of miles an hour reading.

I hope to try to finish the articles on fuel-pump controller rewiring, sunvisor redesign, and proper brake pad replacement (over 1,000 photos taken on just those redesigns so far) before moving on to the less-critical (from a safety standpoint) DIY speedo repair.

When you do make these articles, be sure to send them to me. I will post them into articles on our site for all members to see (with a byline for you of course).

Thanks,

Nick :)

Quote »I will post them into articles on our site[/quote]I've been wonderin' about the FORMAT of the articles.

Most seem to be pure text; but I like to have a step + a photo, next step + a photo, etc.
  • Should I write the article using NICO tags, e.g., the same way I'm writing this?
  • Or should I write it in pure text (much much easier for me) & refer to each photo by name?
  • Or should I write it ias an HTML page (which uses similar, but different tags) with embedded photos?
  • Or should I put it in Microsoft Word format?
  • Or do you have an article templage?
I prefer to just write it in text & refer to a photo - but given my step + photo style, what do you prefer?

Actually on articles I turn HTML on and off as I need. Write it in html...that would be best. Step + picture is good. Check out "Replacing Fuel Injectors on J30"

How'd you know? Haha J/K

Actually, me and Paul (movingviolation240) sat down before we announced the current website's launch, and set up the ladder of power before hand.

There actually is one level which nobody has reached yet. Ironically, any member who has gotten close to that mark has become a moderator (purely coincidence). We've never revealed the # at which that mark is (purely to keep people from post whoring until they get there), but I'm pretty sure it will be reached in the next few months, or sooner, by a regular member.

nlzmo400r and lessthanjakejohn are currently the two highest non-moderator posters. You guys can see how many posts people have if you click on "members" at the top of the page, then "top 30 posters"

Quote »Use HTML....[/quote]HTML is no problem. HTML is basically plain text with simple tags.

The only markup tags I should need for an article are the most basic ones:
  • Header tags (e.g., <H1>, <H2>, <H3>, etc.)
  • Line breaks (e.g., , <P>, <HR>, etc.)
  • Text fonts (e.g., , , , etc.)
  • Ordered lists (e.g., , <OL TYPE=a>, <OL TYPE=1>, etc.)
  • Round bullets (i.e., )
  • Hot-Potato references (i.e., <A HREF=http></A>)
  • Nico 300 pixel images (i.e., )
Basically, I've been researching & posting to the mechanic forums for review (& additional ideas). Then (and when I get some free time) I can compile all that into a complete article.

you can get larger than 300 If you use photopost, or just zip them and send them to Nick to upload somewhere on the site.

I think 400*300 is a much better size...

Bigger is better (up to a point).

For example, this picture just uploaded to the Q45 front/rear brake R&R process, would be easier to see if it were 640x480 instead of 300x225 (currently at 38Kb in size, it started out at 1459x1094, which, at 1.5 Mbytes, is definately too large for a web page).

I don't know what photopost is, but, can I use it (whatever it is) to upload a 640x480 picture in this reply right here?

Go here:http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....o.php

Upload a picture, then you can go tohttp://www.nissaninfiniticlub.net/photopost/to see them. After you upload it there, right click on the photo, go to properties, and get the address. Then you can use IMG tags in a reply and paste the address.
