I've been looking quite desperately for an S14 and getting kinda discouraged. I'm slowly expanding my search and getting less picky so I can actually find a car in my price range. Anyways, a lot of them have over 100,000 miles. How long does a well cared for KA last for? I plan to have this car for quite some time, daily driver at school, longer road trips, etc, and I want to turbo it in a few years too. Would I need to get a new KA or rebuild it after a few years? I haven't seen any with more than 150,000 miles so do they crap out around then? Thanks!Ross

they last forever bro... just take care of it and change fluids on time and you will see a long life for it... some people here on nico have KAs with over 250K miles on it

Cool, good to hear. I guess its common sense to replace things that wear out like bearings, etc when going turbo anyways, so that means that I would those things anyways. that sounded awkward..anyways, thanks for the replies!

If you're going to turbo it, you might as well invest in rebuilding the motor and doing it right. And yeah KA's last a while. Mines pushin 200k, runnin great, and I beat the hell out of it.

I am going on 240,000 miles on my stock KA. Still has perfect compression in all four cylinders and uses no oil at all. Does dump power steering fluid out of the 15 yr old lines though. Ohhhh well good thing ATF is cheap.

Oh yeah the only thing I have done is replace the transmission because the previous owner grinded the crap out of it and when I drained the fluid it came out silver. So I just went ahead and swapped trannies from my hatch.

Well ive got 212k and it literaly runs perfect!!! the exaust is even still in tact with no rust. i just bought it and the previous owner babied it...i have all the nissan oil change papers and everything. It never even hit red line until the day i got it! There has never been anything serious done to the engine, i think the valve cover even has the original seal. THESE THINGS LAST FOREVER! just take care of it and it will do great!!

Strong engine, my 89 burned oil madly when I bought it 3 years ago due to being really treated like a slut by the previous owner (burning oil after only 100k...I was bummed). Did my first oil changes rather quickly, and after some time, the oil consumption got better. Now, the body's dying a rustin rotten death (****ty winters..) but the engine still pulls strong, is happy to start at -22 temps (yes, it gets that cold here in Canada...). I feel this engine could outlast 2 bodies of this car and still work, it just won't die.

I'm at almost 201,000 on a '97 S14. Since I bought it, almost 8 months ago, I've only had to replace the water pump and it's still runnin' like a champ:ylsuper

I have a 91 S13 that has 450 000 kilometers on it (that is 279 000 miles). I change the oil every month on the first day regardless how little I drove that month...I've been doing this since I've bought the car new in 91. The car runs smooth and strong, I don't have much mods on it but it runs perfectly and quietly still...

The previous owner drove if from Minneapolis to Texas quite frequently. It already had 198,000 when I bought it.

ive only got 67k on my recently purchased 93 24o (ok, well odometer stopped working in NOVEMBER OF 98 and the damn lady never got it fixed!!!) so its really more like 11ok or so, and she runs great. My last 24o was an 89 hatch, had 21oK, replaced timing chain and that was all, ran like a champ

I'm one of those guys you hate. Run the crud out of my car. At 235K, I blew the engine. It was eating oil like crazy and the times for me to change the oil became more and more frequent. Finally, died. Put a rebuilt KA4DE in it that had about 50K on it. Same thing, starting to eat oil like crazy. And now coolant is leaking into the engine. Now I'm taking it apart to see how bad the cylinder head is. It has about 115K on it. I'm no car person but I was doing my own oil changes etc with this one. Always fun to take on new challenges. Just trying to figure out the best way to get into the engine to look at the cylinder head now. Chilton's isn't helping me much :(

kinda a horror story in my case...

bought my 240 off 2 college kids

had 161k on the clock...looked and ran fine when i got it

but after a week i found out it was in desperate need of help

car came with leaky radiator hoses...replace those...found out it had a blown headgaskest

next thing it has a pretty bad oil leak due to the oil pan gasket was shot...not sure if it burned oil or not though

then about 178k it started leaking gas around the injectors (only a problem on the KA24E)

181k came around engine was knocking real bad and eventaully threw a bearing

but otherwords yes it is a reliable engine...i just didn't have the money to fix mine...had i known about some of it's problems earlier it'd still be running
