I Own a 2012 Rogue SL. I purchased the vehicle in June 2013. I have never been able to unlock doors or start the engine using the key. My Rogue has automatic start which works well.

Last night after work I attempted to open the driver's door with the FOB, Nothing. I tried to pen the door using the key but could not unlock the door. After replacing the battery in my FOB I was able to gain entry thru the drivers door.I have read the owners manual making attempts to figure out how to use the key.

When you say automatic start did you mean remote start? If so, it has to be aftermarket (because Nissan didn't have an option for Rogue at that time) and possibly with aftermarket fob (oem is a possibility as well). Have you tried to follow this procedure?

First off Thanks for your reply! And yes, my Rogue has an aftermarket automatic start. After viewing the video I was able to start the vehicle using the mechanical key. I cannot unlock the drivers door using it though.Since I have a second FOB which I carry in my purse I shouldn't have a problem gaining entry so long as at least one FOB doesn't have a dead battery. I will take my Rogue to the dealership and ask for a demonstration using the mechanical key to unlock the door.I had not used the spare FOB since purchasing the Rogue so my issue was my own neglect in not being certain the battery in that spare FOB was dead.

Luckily for me I was parked in a Wal Mart parking lot and was able to purchase new FOB batteries.I shiver to think what would have happened hadI been elsewhere and had no place close to purchase the batteries.

Actually this event was sort of a double SNAFU. My husband was going to come pick me up but our BMW Z4 had a dead battery. She was sitting warm and cozy in our garage. Our 73 Corvette is in Springfield, Mo. having gotten a repaint and is in the process of having an interior restoration! Gezzzzzzz Luck doesn't get much worse than this!

Thanks again for your reply!

Sounds like your door lock stopped working and needs to be replaced or it was replaced with a different key.

I took both keys out to my Rogue and realized that one key is the correct key for my vehicle while the other key is not! The dealership which I bought this Rogue from mailed me the spare FOB/ mechanical key after I had owned the Rogue for a few weeks. Supposedly the previous owner of this Rogue provided this spare FOB after I purchased it. Now I realize why I thought I was losing my mind! So now that I am aware
