I don't remember what the two different compression ratios are, I just remember that midway they lowered the compression ratios but adjusted something in the computer to produce the same amount of power. Anyway, I was wondering how you can tell what you have (VIN maybe)?

manufacter date. early motors had 9.1 compression. later single cam motors had 8.6:1 compression, i believe an easy way to tell is if you have a air temp sensor, you have the 8.6 compression both motors have the same bore, stroke. meaning nissan prolly started using a thicker head gasket, or changed the head design for lower compression, they also changed the ecu

nissan technical bulletin TS89-072 covers the compression change.
