Normally it should just slide right out... is the drive-shaft already un-bolted from the differential?

gear oil is creating a seal and you are fighting a vacuum when you pull on it like when you get your shoe stuck in the mud. Yank on that mutha****er!

I had to wiggle mine side to side in all directions to get it to keep budging out. The splines sometimes get a little crusty and make it hard to pull the driveshaft out.

you might want to try and take out the fill plug to relieve the vaccum

The shield is probably dinged to keep the yoke in so the oil don't leak out during delivery.

Took a dremel and wacked it off even with the tail end of trans. Not exactly the best way but i have a j35 LSD rear end and my aluminum drive shaft rubbed on the shield. Yoke fits in trans about 1/2 inch further than standard rear end.
