So I've only had my M for a couple weeks now and I can't stand how much these brakes squeek. They have plenty of life left in them so I'm not really wanting to replace them right now. When its time to change ill go breakmotive route and change them myself. Is there anything that can help until then? Is this normal? Its so loud I swear all 4 are squeeking.

When I got my 07 the brakes squeaked really bad. I didnt know about the forum at the time and just replaced them. They are pretty cheap around 50 for ceramic pads from pep boys and I just swapped them out. I got tired really quick of the sqeaking. OAN, I put brakemotive rotors and pads on my wife Fx35 and they are pretty good. I think I am going to go with them some time in Jan. The brake feel is awesome and feel like my Audi A8 brakes(traded)

Probably change pads. If too much metal they squeak

There is no metal though, that's my problem. I have nearly half the pad left on all 4 wheels. So the ceramic pads squeak less?

The noise is due to uneven wear or grooves in the disk surface. Go get the disks machined and the pads as well and re-install. Follow the proper process for bedding in new rotors (no hard stops). Also inspect the shims, sliders and slider covers. If there are any breaks in the covers replace. If the sliders are stuck the caliper cannot brake properly and you'll see uneven pad and disk wear again. While the disks are off the car ensure the surface behind the rotor hat and the rotor hat itself are nice and clean of junk. If the rotor is not flush mounted to the hub you'll get uneven braking surface leading to the same issue. I use a wire brush on both mating surfaces then plenty of good quality grease.

Lastly when tightening your wheel to the hub make sure you use the star pattern as you get tighter to ensure it's perfectly aligned.

Hey everyone, first off thank you for ask the replies. Due to the cold winter here in NH I have not had a chance to fix the break issue. However I did purchase the pads and rotors and will get them on soon. I'll make sure to lube my pads appropriately and make sure ask the party's behind the rotors are clean and seated correctly. I always use the star pattern when porting wheels back on but thank you for the suggestion. I'll let you know how it all turns out soon.

Make sure to bed your pads in properly. Stoptechs instructions for street pads and rotors are 8 hard decelerations from 60-10mph without invoking abs or coming to a complete stop. You will see smoke. After the 8 near stops drive for 5 minutes (on the Hwy if possible) to allow the brakes to cool.

Here's a video I did in my Honda bedding in my brakes. There is a link to the Stoptech detailed instructions.

After doing this my brakes had great initial bite and never pulsed even from triple digit speeds, never squeaked and lasted longer than previous brakes.

Nice video but i have to say I've installed my own brakes for many years on many different vehicles and have never done that type of break in. I don't see meself doing that now but thanks for the suggestion, glad it worked out for you.

Driving on brakes s without bedding in the pads will work just fine, but it's better to do it. This allows the transfer of a layer of brake pad material onto the rotor surface. McLaren from the factory beds the brakes in on all their cars. I recommend it, but I also agree that if something works for you, go with that.

Here's a more detailed reference.
