well, your brake fluid is low, and your alternator is dying.

unless you meant that the lights came on after you turned the key, but before you started the car.

the loose belt is the culprit for the battery light, and your brake fluid is low.

the battery light comes on whenever your car is operating off of battery power, for instance- when your alternator is not doing its job.

the brake fluid gets low as the brakes wear, and more fluid is needed to take up the space of the extended caliper piston.

check your pads, dont just fill up the master cylinder.

if your pads are worn, and you top off the master cylinder, when you depress the caliper pistons to fit new pads, the master cylinder will overflow brake fluid.

Also.... There is a switch underneatht the dash that is incorperated into the pedal. It uses a little peice of plastic and this usually breaks. Just put a screw in the hole and the head should push the switch for you. I have done this on 4 240s already. Just a thought.

If none of that works for the brake light take the console out and check the single wire connector that attaches to the e-brake handle.

if the res was full, its most likely a short in the e-brake switch.

Eh... are you talkin about the brakelight switch.. 'cause if you are, inserting a screw that pushes it in will make the brake lights stay on.. always...

Its one of those thing you have to see......

And the brake light goes on when the switch is NOT pressed, so if what your thinking was right, which isnt, then they would never go on....

Its on the pedal. A little hole that a plastic peice goes in. I have done this on 4 cars..... Dont you think I wouldve noticed if I did soemthing wrong???

I have yet to spend hours examining my brake pedal, but at a glance I only saw the one switch that activates the brake lights (I had to replace it when I first got the car)

Now that I think about it, they do turn ON when the switch is in the "OFF" position... with a screw in there stuck in the 'on' position the brake lights would never come on... Where is the other switch at and what is its purpose?

guys, same thing happened to me. i was in galveston with my girl, and my e brake and battery lights came on. i was like "wtf oh well it'll live its been through 2 wrecks and it still woops up on 3.8 mustangs" little did i know, im an idiot. anyway, turns out the alternator belt SNAPPED! and when youre in galveston, not even thinking to check the belts, and having to n-rig some POS "Interstate" battery that doesnt fit in your engine bay that you just got ripped off at 150 bucks from some stupid whore that has no teeth, YOU GET A LITTLE PISSED!!! but i digress...i had to tow the damned thing across a channel (via a ferry, i didnt swim with the tow chain around my neck people...) and all the way back to my house which is 5 miles from katy. and if you live where i do, you know that galveston is hella far from that area. anyway, check those belts pronto, and get that alternator looked at. if it starts bogging like the gas is pouring in, its the alt.

so long and good luck!

oh, and a tip, dont buy car batteries from galveston. they suck.

also, dont swim in galveston, you WILL get a disease, if not the flesh eating virus.
