Hey All...

I just bought a custom manifold for my KA-T project... there are 3 threads sticking out where the exhaust side of the turbo meets the mani.... and they need to be replaced... how can I remove them without damaging the thread portion? I also need to buy more.. what is the proper terminology for those thread/bolt thingies so I can ask for them at the hardware store? Should I just take it to the machine shop and have them take care of it? Sorry if this is a noob question, It's just that I have never ran into this situation before. Thanks ;-P

I'm thinkint you are referring to the studs, but to confirm, are these threads the ones you will be using to tighten the turbo to the manifold using nuts on them, then that are indeed studs. If they are too tight to remove by hand, get 2 nuts that fit the studs and screw both onto one stud. Then tighten the 2 nuts to each other. Use a wrench against the lower nut to loosen it and it should come off. Then loosen the nuts from each other and then repeat the process for the other two studs. To put one on do the same thing, but tighten them instead. You migh use some penetrating oil on the studs before you do this in case the studs are siezed at all.

Some hardware stores will carry replacements. Not as many though if they are Metric threads. If they are the same thread as the studs that attach the exhaust manifold to the heads, then you can get some from the dealer along with matching mechanical locknuts(I highly recommend using mechanical locknuts to keep it from loosening).

If they do not match the above description, try to explain it in more detail or take pics and post them up.

Sweet, exactly the information I needed.. yes.. .studs.. I guess I did have a brain fart.. I will have to pull one out using the method you described and take it to Ace hardware or something.. maybe even lowes...(doubt it) If I couldn't find these at a hardware store... would I just order them from a VG30tt or something?

Yeah I know about the Y plate, I had one of my cars when I was on OKI. I was stationed at Kadena for 4 years.

In case you need it, the stud install/removal technique is called the double jam nut method. As long as the person you speak with knows what he's talking about, then you should be able to just say that instead of trying to explain it in detail.
