Is this an 02+ vehicle? Have him try to clear the codes first. You can clear the codes with a key sequence:
key on for 3 secondspress the gas pedal 5 times (in less than 5 seconds)wait 7 secondspress the gas pedal and hold for 10 seconds until the MIL starts to flash
if it flashes a code like a 16XX, that is an imobolization code. This will keep the car from starting if it has this code. To reset the code, (while in diagnostic mode with the MIL still blinking)...
press and hold the gas for 10 seconds until the MIL blinks a 0000 code which is clear. Then try to restart the car.
If he needs more details on checking codes, let me know. I've become an expert at it since I own a spec V.
You may want to give this a try. . if it's just throwing a code, maybe this will do it?
