I own a 1994 Q45, and I need to remove the shifter. I have looked in the field manuel under auto transmission, and could not find anything on how to remove the leather bound push button shifter. please let me know if it can be remove and tell me how. I have a much better after market shifter, I want to replace it with. Thank you for any help. And dont leave out the F in shifter .

Ironically, i just recieved an email about this... ironic!!

Anyway, youll want to remove the control rod bolt from the trans under the car..... Youll see how the shifter connects to the trans linkage.. Remove that, and then 4 bolts hold it onto the frame... Theres a connector or 2 down there thats kinda tricky to get at without shredding your hands.....

I just need to remove the handle, on the shifter post, not the post itself. Is their a way to remove just the leather handle, I can see a screw under the push button, but area is too narrow.

The FAST diagram doesn't show any external bolts/screws.

OEM ist fein für mich

OEM ist fein für mich = OEM is fine for meIn other words, I like the shift knob that comes stock.

You've inspired me, I think I'll take the shifter off tomorrow just to see how to.

Im tempted to go to a junk yard and yank one off for the hell of it just to find out. Fortunately, I have apathy on my side so I'll stay home.

Oh you want to remove just the knob. You have to take the button off, you need a small screw driver to under the clip, and then theres a bolt on it.

i think it is a 10mm bolt real easy just need a short extension.if ur new shift knob does not install w/ the center bolt, it will not work well.(what i be saying is if new one has the 3 set screws dont even bother)

Well I'm gonna jump on this post -

I'm looking for a chrome and wood shift knob for my '92Q (ala 2005Q)The 2005 doesn't have the push button, however. Any way to get around that?

IIRC you need a very deep socket, and that "bolt" is a nut. The button is retained with some plastic barbs, just pry up a little carefully.

Unfortunatly I did get a shifter with the three screws and no top nut. Damn the bad luck, the button on the OEM shifter is worn out and sticks some time. Thank you guys for giving great information, NICO still is the best place for Nissan or Infiniti hands down.
