Can anybody provide step by step instructions on how to re charge the AC system in a M45?

Or does any body have an estimate of what a shop will charge?

Also, I know there are specific types of refrigerant that don't work on all A/C systems, which one will I need?

open your hood, look for the HVAC label where it will tell you that your car will take in R134A and underneath will tell you how much. i've done this several years ago but i'm guessing around 600g +/- 20 or so. then go to walmart or any auto parts store and buy one of the refill can with gauge attached. these days you have to press on the can to dispense whereas before you can puncture the can with a screw to open. finally and most important, you have to make sure your A/C clutch is working otherwise refill freon is meaningless as it will not work.

NOTE - read the can instructions before you start.

If your AC is not working then there is a leak somewhere

My A/C works but I feel like it's not cold enough. The A/C does it's job, but i think it should be colder.

My GF's car is a 2013 Kia that blows super cold air. I know her car is new but my car doesn't get like hers.

Possibly recharging the system could help.

If you don't mind being only slightly stabbed, you could have a reputable place do a system check. That will tell you IF there is a leak or possibly confirm that your system is fine and just doesn't cool as well as the KIA.

The A/C in my car has never been extremely cold either, but has always worked plenty well. Even when I go out to the river in 120 degree heat it will start cooling the car quickly, just without the "ice cold" feeling.

[storytime]
The blower motor in my car stopped working a couple weeks ago, the dealership looked at it and found it was either a corroded connection or loose connection to the motor near one of the resistors. They showed me where and how to mess with the connection to get power working and the blower functioning again so I have A/C, that way I didnt have to pay them for a new motor since it might be fine for quite a while still if it is just a loose connection. I love my dealership. Unfortunately it stopped working again yesterday, messed with the connection and it came back on. I decided with the trips I am taking to the river this summer Id rather do a real fix and just pay them so it is fully reliable. I got to the dealership late, and the managers had gone home. So my service adviser went out and looked around until he found a brand new Q50 I could take as a loaner instead of the regular, last model G's, cause ya my dealership is awesome like that. Anyway, it was a pretty warm day out so of course the A/C was being used on the drive home and in this new Q50, the air conditioner definitely blows incredibly cold. My fingers were starting to feel a bit numb from the cold after a few minutes.

So ya, I just think the older model M's dont necessarily have really cold A/C, but that is fixed in the new Q's at least.

The A/C depends on the front mounted heat exchanger. Take a close look at the fins. Are they all bent or stuffed with dirt, bugs and other crap? Clean that out and use high pressure water washer to spray from the inside rad outwards to unlodge stuff. My cars A/C blows really cold and it's an 06 but I maintain my heat exchanger. As a side note I also have a small amount of metal screen in front of my A/C condenser to protect it from stones and other dangerous stuff. I don't want my exchanger to get punctured which is also very common.

Enigma:

I'm glad you have a great dealership and a goo service rep. I always brag about the service I get as well. When my starter went titz-up, I made one call to my service guy. He actually sent a flat bed from the dealership to pick up my car, and following him was another guy putting a Q50 loaner into my driveway. I told Brian , my service guy that there is a warranty and the info is in the glove box. Brian arranged everything with my warranty peeps. He took over the whole process and when the car was ready, he had the warranty paperwork completed and took payment over the phone. He even offered to have an attendant drive my car back to my house and pick up the loaner. All this by making ONE phone call to Brian.

Here is the amazing part: I didn't even buy my M from that dealer! I bought it at CarMax and the warranty is also with CarMax, not Infiniti!

We all know that dealers have much higher prices and they mark up everything they can. But when you get service like this, it seems less like robbery. Providing this level of service to someone who didn't even buy a car from you is amazing. One of my mates just bought a Q50s from them because I sent him there and another is getting that huge barge SUV thing from them so it pays off for them as well. BTW, that huge barge is probably THE ugliest SUV I have ever seen.

Anyone near Ft Lauderdale, the dealership is Lauderdale Infiniti on Sunrise Blvd and my service guy is Brian Rock.

I came across this video the other day regarding cleaning the condenser. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_em9lm69HQ

The stuff he uses is expensive, $95 for a 1 gallon bottle!

Lol. Use simple green pro hd. Just by spraying with water should be enough to remove bugs and dirt accumulation. I've straighted fins before as well. Real tedious work but may be worth it and it gives you a chance to see any damage up close.
