I just bought this performance rebuild kit and am getting started tomorrow on taking the engine out to rebuild it obviously. I don't have a manual for the car and I'm new with the 240 I bought it at the end of February with a knocking sound that onl occurs at 2.5rpm-3.5rpm so i bought a kit to make it purr. The only problem is I search and all i get is cites selling rebuild kits so I'm here with the question of How do I do it? Is there a dummy guide somewhere? Please help me out

Also I'm overhauling the transmission soon and ordering stock t28 nissan turbo kit this summer to never be able to get traction in my first 3 gears or whatnot.

Some help or info please!

Rod knock ayy... I hope your having it bored and decked. Is your rebuild kit an overbore kit. You need to drop that block off at a machine shop.

It's .02 over I had it checked and with the wear in it they fit clean. Plus if the mechanic is wrong I can swap for stock standards for free. I got the kit from http://www.performance-auto-pa...n.php

just look for the 2.4L 1991-whatever major kit

too bad I'm a noob and the kit didn't give me instructions...

You will need a large allen key fitting(s) for the head bolts.Torque wrench. You will need a honing tool, and a friend at times to help lift the head out. Also a piston ring expander for ring install.Evaluate how 'good' the pistons look, new ones aren't too xpensive if they're bad.Just listed some of the common necessary things that are overlooked for ya. GL, it's easy man just follow your nose.

you know you could always buy a book on the car that tells you everything you need to know . I got one for myself, its made by chilton and the book has repair manuals for the stanza and 200sx in it as well, so you'll get some nice info on ka's, ca's and vg engines.

that knoking isnt rods or anything like that... i removed my timing chain guide and i doesnt make a sound at idle but around 2.5 rpm it makes that knoking sound... its just the thiming chain.... but since your going turbo its good your rebuilding... imo you should replace the timing chain also, if it doesnt come with the kit already... then itll purr

If it's tools you need go to a auto store and buy a big set of tools you can of sockets. Then after buy whatever other sizes you need. Remember to get a pully puller, seal puller and valve spring one too if your doing that as well. Just so you know most bolts are 10mm to like 15mm.

That COULD be it, but if he can't tell the difference between timing chain rattle and engine knock he shouldn't even change his oil :P well that's an exaggeration.

! But besides the standard tools, you will need swivels, and a 10mm allen key socket(for the head bolts)

i garantee the sound your hearing is a piston pin, my is doing the exhaust same thing, same rpm range too, it alittle harder of a knock then a timing chain rattle, and thats what mine is the piston pin. good luck with your biuld.

You need to do your homework before you take on a task like this, the last thing you want is rod knock again right after you've rebuilt it.

If you thought bumping an old thread after a few months was bad, HOW ABOUT AFTER 15 YEARS?! MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
